Eneco CO2 Barometer

VERK have created a data visualization tool for the Dutch energy company Eneco. The CO2 barometer currently runs internally in Eneco as a part of an internal innovation platform, named EnecoWorld and it makes complex data, concerning energy consumption, easily accessible and understandable.

Eneco is among the largest energy suppliers in the Benelux region. Eneco is no exception when it comes to the change that is sweeping energy suppliers around the world. Within the next 30 years we will see a drastic transition towards a decentralized and connected energy-grid, where the traditional customers also become producers of energy. In this future, energy suppliers such as Eneco will still produce electricity. But more that that, they have the opportunity to move into energy management, consulting, distribution and product development.

For Eneco, a major step in this transition was marked by the introduction of a sustainability strategy that launched in 2008. The goal is to be 100% emission-neutral by 2030. This can only be achieved through powerful innovations within the organisation.

But if you’ve ever worked with emission data (and who hasn’t, right?), you’ll know that these are just numbers, and they tend to be quite hard to find your way around them. The CO2 barometer solves this by giving any visitor a complete overview of emissions. The visitor can split up the sources of pollution (How much comes from paper-waste? How much is from cars?). The numbers are updated monthly, and also allow Eneco’s 6.500 employees to compare the performance of Eneco and her subsidiaries, Joulz and Stedin.
